Engagement Party

Hi everyone!

I am so sorry I have been absent from the blog for awhile. I have been trying to focus on school after getting home from work and we have been on the go every single weekend, which hasn’t left me much time for blogging. I will be getting my first break from school since I started my graduate degree in May and it is almost a month long, I am so looking forward to it and can’t wait to catch up on blogging! We have also been so busy wedding planning and I can’t wait to give you all a wedding planning update soon. I originally wasn’t going to post about our engagement party because I didn’t know how many people would be interested in reading about it, but I received so many questions about the party and it turned out beautifully so I wanted to share all of the details with all of you.

Why we really wanted to have an engagement party:

Charlie and I got engaged on July 22, 2018 and were so beyond excited! It was honestly one of the best days of my life thus far and it was such a blur. I was so in shock, even though I knew he was planning a proposal, but I still could not believe it had actually happened. Read more about the proposal here. Charlie and I currently still live in Flagstaff where we both attended college and none of our friends live here anymore. All of our friends live in the Phoenix area or out of state, which made it difficult to have a small celebration or go get drinks to celebrate our engagement. Charlie’s family also lives in California and we really wanted to be able to celebrate with his family and all spend time together. We figured it would be best to have an engagement party so we could celebrate with all of our closest family and friends. We also knew we wouldn’t get married for over a year and wanted to get everyone excited for the wedding, which is another reason we decided to have a party.

Where we had it at:

We had our engagement party at Poco Diablo Resort in Sedona, AZ. At that time, we didn’t know that Poco Diablo Resort would then become our wedding venue as well. We chose Poco Diablo Resort because my parents are members there and we always go there to golf, swim, go to the gym, and go out to dinner. Poco Diablo is also close to my parents house and was convenient for planning purposes. Poco Diablo Resort also has amazing views and has a hotel and villas connected to the property, which was convenient for all of our out of town friends and family. Poco Diablo also catered the dinner for the party and we chose to have a Mexican food themed party with fajitas, salad, veggies, tacos, and chips and salsa/guac. All of the food for the party was amazing and all of the guests really enjoyed it! Since it was an engagement party, we decided to do buffet style and have a more casual meal, instead of a formal sit down dinner. Poco Diablo also took care of setting up the venue and provided the chairs, tables, linens, silverware, plates, etc. It was so nice not having to rent everything prior to the event.

My future mother in law also set up the most beautiful entry table at the party and it was the highlight of the engagement party. Everyone, including myself could not believe how beautiful the table turned out and how incredible it made the entire party look. The table had pictures of Charlie and I throughout the years behind it, the most beautiful fresh flowers, floating candles, balloons, a sign with the number of days until our wedding, a drop heart box to remember all of the names of those who attended, lights, tulle, and wooden initials. It was seriously amazing as you can see from the picture below!

Who we invited:

We tried to keep the party under 50 people because we didn’t want it to be too large of a party. We chose to invite our families, of course and our closest friends. We had about 40 family members and friends attend our party and it was the perfect amount. We appreciate everyone making the journey to celebrate our engagement with us and had so much fun! After the party ended, we kept the party going and played card games and drinking games at the lounge in the lobby.

What we wore:

I got soooo many questions about the dress I wore for the engagement party and I am so happy you all loved the dress so much! I knew I wanted to wear a white dress for the engagement party and started looking for a dress a month before the event. I found the dress I wore online at Red Dress Boutique and will link it below for you all to shop. It is the perfect dress to wear for your bridal shower, bachelorette party, engagement party, or rehearsal dinner! Charlie wore a white button down polo and shorts with loafers, which was the perfect outfit because it was still hot in Sedona at the time, but he still looked very handsome (like always). The dress code was very casual since it was so hot out at that time and we wanted it to be a low key event for everyone to enjoy. I would definitely decide if you want to have a more formal or casual engagement party because that will help you decide the venue, the type of food you’re going to serve, and what you and your guests will wear.

I also chose to do our engagement party the same weekend I did my initial wedding dress try ons. I chose to do this so that my bridesmaids would not have to travel two different weekends, but would still be able to attend both events. I will link my outfit and some of the decor we used for the party below! Thank you to our friends and family for making our engagement party the most amazing night for both Charlie and I!

Favorite Wedding Dress Styles with Stella York

Wedding season is upon us, especially for me since I recently got engaged! If you are new to my blog, I recently got engaged to the man of my dreams (in July) and have had SO much fun planning thus far. I have been dreaming of trying on dresses since I was a young girl and have been patiently waiting for the day I could finally put one on for the very first time. It was just as magical as I had imagined and trying on dresses with my mom was the most magical experience. While at Bella Lily Bridal in Glendale, AZ, I tried on all of the new Stella York styles and fell in love with each and every one of the dresses. All of the dresses I tried on were very different, but all of them were so unique and flattering. I seriously think all of the dresses were made for me because they all fit me perfectly and didn’t require any extra clippings. I honestly had a really difficult time choosing my favorite dress because every single time I put a new dress on, it felt like it was the one. I am so excited to share all of the styles and dresses with you and I hope you love all of them as much as I do!

*When creating this post, I asked you all what you wanted to see in this post to help make dress shopping easier. A bunch of you said you wanted me to share iPhone pictures with minimal editing to help you visualize what the dress actually looks like on, which I thought was such a great idea! It is sometimes so difficult to visualize what dresses actually look like on while looking on professional websites and Instagram. I wanted to be as real as possible with all of you, which is why most of the pictures are taken with an iPhone and have minimal editing (only light adjustments) and a few of the pictures were taking with a professional camera. I wanted to be able to share both forms of pictures with all of you since it was requested!

1. Style 6563

The first style I tried on was the most beautiful and elegant strapless ballgown. From the second I put the dress on, I felt like a princess and absolutely loved how beautiful the dress made me feel. The dress had the most beautiful detailing on it, which made it sparkle in the light. The train on the dress is absolutely beautiful and is so full, which is something I am really looking for in a dress. When I was first getting ideas for the kind of dress I wanted, I didn’t think I had even wanted to try on a ballgown, but I am so happy I did! To learn more about this style and dress, click here

2. Style 6555

The second dress I tried on was completely different than the ballgown dress and I am so happy it was the complete opposite because it really helped me decide the type of dress I was looking for. This dress is more boho, but still has the elegant touch to it. I love the tulle skirt the dress and all of the lace detailing. My favorite part about this dress is the back of it. The lace detailing wraps around to the back of the dress and has the most beautiful illusion back with covered buttons. To learn more about this style and dress, click here

3. Style 6612

The third dress I tried on was beyond stunning and also made me feel like a princess, which I loved. The lace detailing made this dress so flattering, especially with the thin, lace straps. I love dresses with sleeves or straps because I think the sleeves or straps add more detail to the overall look of the dress. I personally also naturally gravitate towards dresses with sleeves or straps because I feel more confident and don’t want all of my shoulders/arms exposed. 4. Style 6586

This dress was one of my top two favorite dresses and was my mom’s favorite dress on me. She loved how flattering it was and all of the unique details on the dress and I did as well. The sides of the dress were my absolute favorite details. Both of the sides were cut out and covered with the most beautiful lace, which gave it a contemporary feel, yet still kept the classy look of the dress. The back of this dress was also stunning and as you can see, the train is beyond stunning. To learn more about this style and dress, click here

5. Style 6530

If you are going for a simple, elegant look, this dress is for you. This dress was the simplest dress of the six I tried on. Even though it was very simple, I love how elegant the dress looked on me. This dress would be perfect for a beach wedding, especially since it flows beautifully. The detailing on the back of this dress is stunning and has beautiful jewels on the straps and criss-crosses in the back, giving it the perfect flattering touch. 6. Style 6590

This was my absolute favorite dress of the day, by far. I put this dress on and thought, “this is the one!” This dress has everything I had been looking for in a dress and fit me perfectly. I love all of the lace, how beautifully it sparkles in the light, and how flattering it is on. The train on this dress is also breathtaking and is the exact length I was looking for. The back detailing on this dress is also stunning and compliments the rest of the dress so well. To learn more about this style and dress, click here

7. Style 6490

This dress was a close second to being my favorite dress because I loved the lace detailing and illusion front and back detailing on the dress. The entire dress was beyond flattering and comfortable, which is also very important when picking out a wedding dress. You want to find a dress that you will feel 100% confident and comfortable being in all night long, especially since you will be wearing it for an entire day and night. This dress has all of the perfect details and makes the perfect wedding dress for all body types. To learn more about this style and dress, click here

8. Style 6732

This dress is the most stunning and elegant ball gown I have ever seen! The details on this dress are beyond amazing and include everything a girl could ever dream of while wearing a wedding dress. If you are looking for the perfect fairytale wedding dress, this is definitely the dress for you. The dress has the most elegant, jewel straps that complete the look of the dress. This was the very last dress I tried on and it was the perfect dress to end with because it made me feel like an absolute princess. To learn more about this style and dress, click here

I had the most amazing day trying on all of the different Stella York dress styles at Bella Lily Bridal. I can’t wait to show all of you the dress I end up choosing and I hope you all loved seeing the dresses as much as I loved wearing them! I have now tried on dresses from multiple designers and Stella York wedding dresses are by far my favorite. I am absolutely drawn to the style and look of Stella York wedding dresses and I think they were all made for me! I can honestly say I didn’t try on one dress that I didn’t absolutely love, I wish I could wear them all on my wedding day! My favorite part of Stella York styles and gowns is that they are truly made for every body type. Stella York truly wants every single person to feel stunning while wearing their dresses, which is something I highly value. I know I want to feel confident, comfortable, and beautiful while walking down the aisle, which is why I am choosing a Stella York wedding dress for my big day next year! Engagement Story

As some of you may know, Charlie and I met at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff in 2015. We were introduced to each other by my roommate and mutual friend at a bar one night and instantly had a connection. Sorry to call you out Charlie, but I am, it took him three full months to text me after giving him my number that night. We started texting and hanging out in December of 2015 and became an exclusive couple at the end of January. Charlie took me on our first date the weekend after he came to my sorority date party with me in February and it didn’t even feel like a first date because we were so comfortable being with one another. I remember telling my friends how much I liked him and how I could see myself being with him for a long time very early on in our relationship. We went on a spontaneous trip to New York City and Boston for his birthday and after going on that trip together, I knew I was going to spend the rest of my life with him.

Now on to the proposal story:

I hate to admit it, but I totally knew Charlie was going to propose when he did. I know him so well and know when he is being different and he was totally off that day. He is usually so easy going and isn’t ever pushy about what we do, but he was that day. He insisted we go hiking on Saturday, but it rained all day long so we couldn’t go. On Sunday afternoon, he again insisted we go hiking and I knew something was up because he usually would have just said we could go another weekend instead.

We went up to Snowbowl in Flagstaff and went on the most beautiful hike. It was so peaceful and quiet and it seemed like all of nature knew what was about to happen. Charlie brought a blanket to sit on and snacks for us to eat while we sat at one of the overlooks. After looking at the beautiful view for awhile and eating our snacks, we continued our hike.

We got to my favorite spot on the hike and were taking pictures of the amazing Aspen trees and I had Charlie take a few pictures of me (for the blog of course). He told me to turn around and put my hands up so he could take a picture. When I turned back around, he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! Even though I had a feeling it would happen that day, I was so surprised and excited. He picked out the most beautiful ring all on his own and had it customized! I still can’t believe we are actually engaged, I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with the man of my dreams.

Stay tuned for more wedding content! I will be sharing all of the dresses I tried on from Stella York at Bella Lily Bridal at the end of the week.

Maid of Honor + Bridesmaids Proposals with Shop Days of June & Causegear

I have been waiting for the past month to ask my maid of honor and bridesmaids to be in our wedding and the suspense has been killing me! I finished my maid of honor’s gift box the weekend of my birthday and had planned on giving it to her that weekend, but decided it would be best to wait until the dress fittings and engagement party, when I was giving others their gifts as well. I am also happy that I waited because two amazing brands reached out to me about collaborating for bridesmaids gifts and I absolutely love both brands!

The first brand is a cute little boutique in Glendale, California called Shop Days of June. Shop Days of June makes the cutest, affordable rings, bridesmaid gifts, and wedding games/favors. Shop Days of June sent me all of the earrings for my bridesmaids and maid of honor, the customized wedding favor bags with our names and wedding date, and customized wedding games for my bridal shower. Everything they sent me is so so cute and made with amazing quality. All of my bridesmaids loved their earrings and I can’t wait for everyone to play the games at the bridal shower. A huge thank you to Shop Days of June for all of the bridesmaid gifts, wedding favor bags, and wedding games!

The second brand that contacted me was Causegear and they just released the cutest bridesmaid totes! I had originally planned on just using cute paper bags that said bridesmaid on the side, but thought it was such a fun idea to collaborate with Causegear and give my bridesmaids all of their gifts in a reusabale tote. They will be able to bring the tote to the bachelorette party, use it for the wedding, and for grocery shopping after the wedding festivities are over. Causegear is an amazing company that supports women in so many wonderful ways. Click here to read their mission, it’s worth the read and will make you want to purchase a tote because it is so powerful. Thank you to Causegear for sponsoring all of the cute bridesmaid totes!

In all of the bridesmaid totes, I gifted all of my bridesmaids with a proposal card that was personalized with their name and had a handwritten message on the inside, disco bottle toppers from Nordstrom Rack, mini candles from Nordstrom Rack, earrings from Shop Days of June, a champagne flute from Marshalls, La Marca prosecco with a Bride Tribe label, and the tote from Causegear. I also decorated each bag with confetti and cute tissue paper.

For the maid of honor gift box, the only things I changed was that I put everything in a gift box that said will you be my maid of honor on the front, the earrings from Shop Days of June were personalized for the maid of honor and were the only earrings that were blue, instead of silver or white. I also added a maid of honor champagne flute, but it didn’t get shipped in time so I will give it to her at a later date, and also added a raspberry chocolate bar.

I will be hosting a giveaway with Causegear this week on my Instagram page and it will be very easy to enter so don’t miss out! Keep checking my Instagram page to follow the steps and enter to win.

I hope you all enjoyed seeing and reading about how I asked my maid of honor and my bridesmaids to be in our wedding!
